One of My Favorite Books

When friends present the question:: What book should I read next? Of all of the books I've read and enjoyed, I always recommend the same one - one given to me by a dear friend to me several years ago when I worked at a camp in the mountains, A Severe Mercy by Sheldon Vanauken.
In its pages you'll find a true story about a journey in love and life. The searching and finding of true love and commitment to it. Wow. I don't want to give away much more, but this couple was friends with C. S. Lewis and shares some of their letters together, and so, of course -- that just makes them more wonderful! A Severe Mercy is an autobiography
A Severe Mercy has been reprinted with different covers, and though you may not judge a book by its cover, they honestly do give off a different view of the book itself -- so check it out if you get the chance, you can't regret it! This text brought me into a full circle of human emotions which has etched their story into my memories, and I purchase and share the book again and again, frequently rereading it myself. I highly recommend this meaningful and well-crafted piece of literature written.

  1. I think I've hear of this book, but I've never read it. I love C.S Lewis though. Do you think it would be a good Book Club read? Great blog BTW! #Blogtober14

  4. It is fantastic! I think it would be perfect for a book club that comes with the entire book read to discuss -- if it is one that you come after reading a few chapters, you're going to have people read ahead and not be able to put the book down :) Let me know if you do -- that would be awesome! It has plenty of perspectives to discuss and people will want to share stories about how it relates to their lives or how it impacted them. I think it would be wonderful for book club!
