With Christmas in sight you may be working and wondering on how to make this Christmas meaningful for your family. What events will you attend? How many gifts will you give? Will your children ever learn to give generously? Will they internalize the truth about Christmas? AND a big one::
How will you handle Santa Claus and not let him overpower Jesus' Birth Celebration?

A little history:
Whether you LOVE Santa or not, he will be a part of your Christmas season. --and I'm here saying, let's not hate on dear Ol' St. Nicholas! After all, the man that inspired the Santa Claus hype actually was a wonderful man. Nicholas suffered for his faith, lived generously and was known as a protector and helper to those who found themselves in need. One of the common stories told about St. Nick was that he rescued three girls by tossing bags of gold through their windows to give them a way out when they were about to be forced into lives of prostitution.

Modern Day
We've strayed quite a bit from St. Nicholas' example of giving sacrificially and secretly -- but the positive remembrance, is something to celebrate -- but maybe not on Christmas. Many European countries actually still celebrate St. Nicholas' feast day on December 6th, or the eve (December 5th) or December 19 - and shares small gift-giving and candies early on during the Advent season in order to focus on the Christ Child during Christmas!

What I love about this book:
1 || It focuses on Jesus Christ and illustrates His birth and receiving of gifts
It doesn't skim over the Christmas story, but rather gives explanatory details and also cute perspectives like this: "They didn't care that they found him in a manger surrounded by all the animals and smells in the stable. They were used to them. Besides they smelled like them, too." How cute!
2 || It is kind -- it doesn't "hate" on Santa or tell kids not to celebrate St. Nicolas' legacy
Here's a little example at the end of the book, "This Christmas, I want to thank you for all that you do. For every gift that you give to kids, well, it is as if you are honoring Jesus, too!"
3 || Easy to read print
The pages have a nice, large sized print that makes it easy to read -- especially for you Grandparents out there :)
Soraya Diase Coffelt is a widow and the mother of two sons. She has a very educated background (lawyer and former judge) and has used her gifts to do ministry and missions.
5 || This is a gift that gives back
You all know by now that I love gifts that have a deeper meaning. Well this book fits right into my liking! All proceeds from the sale of this book goes towards the As the Stars of the Sky Foundation, Inc., a non-profit that assists with the physical and spiritual needs of children. How wonderful is that!
Thank you to my blog sponsors and for As the Stars of the Sky Foundation, Inc. for making this giveaway possible and spreading the true meaning of Christmas and the origins of giving gifts!
